Anambra State Internal Revenue Services, AIRS, has sealed off over ten
major eateries and lounges in Awka, for non registration of their
business premises.

The Chairman of AIRS, Dr David Nzekwu, who spoke shortly after the
enforcement drive, disclosed that the office has a responsibility to
administer the revenue laws of the state and had over time, been
distributing demand notices to people, especially in the area of
business premises registration.

Dr Nzekwu, said that the law requires anybody that opens up a business to register same and pay accruing taxes accordinglying to relevant authority .

The Head of Enforcement team, Mr. Chuka Nzekwu frowned at the attitude
of some defaulters, noting that tax payment is a civic responsibility
of all to help government to develop the state.
