In line with its determination to encourage youths towards living a positive lifestyle, FrankGlobal Connect has held a conference to address the factors that make young people to abuse different types of illicit drugs and other challenges facing them.

 

The conference held in Awka, attracted youths from different parts of the state, members of FrankGlobal Connect, Anambra State Chapter.

FrankGlobal Connect is an initiative founded and powered by a clergyman in the Anglican Communion, Venerable Franklin Mmor with an intention to evangelize the young people and direct them towards a positive lifestyle that will impact their society positively.

 

The conference had its theme: “Drug Abuse and its consequences: How to be a useful youth.”

It also aims at bringing families together, helping youths to become useful and productive members of the society while also serving as a platform for networking among members anywhere in Nigeria.

 

The convener and founder, Venerable Mmor said that the theme of the conference was very apt considering happenings in today’s Nigeria where some youths behave irresponsibly and engage in activities that can seriously jeopardize their personal and societal safety.

Venerable Mmor who spoke through a member of the group, Dr Mrs Nkechi Okpala stated that a wide range of issues such as drug abuse, criminality, violence, unsafe sex and teenage pregnancy affect the youth population and require immediate attention and interventions.

 

Venerable Mmor revealed that through FrankGlobal Connect, they are taking proactive steps to address some of the challenges by promoting education, entrepreneurship, and positive values while recommending that government and other stakeholders should invest in comprehensive and sustainable behavioral change programmes that target the youths.

In a paper titled ‘Useful Youth’, a former member of the National Assembly that represented Awka North and South in the House of Representatives, Honourable Chinedu Onwuaso said that the keys to being successful in life include being trustworthy and steadfast, building confidence, being willing to take positive risks and seeking right information at all times.

 

Another resource person, Mr Obinna Nwakpadolu who dwelt on’ Drug Abuse and Its Consequences’ asked the gathering to distance themselves from whatever has the capacity to change the functioning of their bodily system and cautioning them against engaging in using and abusing illicit drugs and substances.

The Chairman of FrankGlobal Connect, Awka Branch, Mr Emezie Nwangene said that he is elated by the success of the conference and expressed optimism that it will shape the lives of the participants positively.

 

Commending their benefactor, one of the participants, Mr Tochukwu Mbanefo said that they garnered from the lectures which he hopes will help them become better members of the society.
