Members of the international community mark today as World Children’s Day.

 

It is a day set aside by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to celebrate children across the world. .

 

The theme of this year’s celebration is “inclusion for every child.” .

 

It aims to empower children to call for a better future and a more equal, inclusive world.

 

Today’s event offers opportunities to advocate, promote and celebrate children’s rights through dialogue and actions that will build a better world for children as well as create awareness on issues affecting the future of children.

 

In Anambra state, series of programmes have been lined up to mark the International Children’s Day celebration, which includes fancy dress competition, wearing of blue dress to mark the anniversary of the adoption of United Nations Convention on the rights of children.

 

 

Already, Chukwuzimuzo Emejulu from Emed Pride Academy and Chidimma Udeozor from Candy Kiddies International featured on ABS radio programme for children.

 

 

A member of Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities who is visually impaired, Miss Onyinye Nwanelo also featured in the programme, and expressed joy and satisfaction with programmes designed for the event, noting that UNICEF is one of the strongest partners in promoting the welfare of the underprivileged persons in Anambra state especially as it concerns women and children, praying that God will continue to empower the agency to do more for the needy .

 

 

UNICEF over the years has continued to intervene in Anambra state to improve the welfare of children and women in various ways.

 

 

Parents are expected to organise parties for their children today to mark the event and the children are also expected to take part in other activities like palm print game, dancing competition and swimming among others.
