Today is World Tourism Day. The day was set aside by the United Nations World Tourism Organization to provide global platform for discussion on the inherent potential and gains of tourism as one of the major drivers of the economy around the World. The idea of celebrating the day was proposed by a Nigerian, Late Ignatius Amaduwa Atigbi.

 

The theme of this year’s celebration is Tourism and Green Investment. The theme encourages narratives around more and better-targeted investment for timely realization of sustainable development goals. It will amplify message on the clarion call for governments especially in the developing economies to evolve better strategies for quick recovery in the post Covid-19 pandemic era. It will be hosted by Saudi Arabia in one of its major cities, Riyadh.

 

In Anambra State, the government and people of the State are joining their counterparts around the globe in the celebration. This is remarkable because Governor Chukwuma Soludo has demonstrated commitment to making Anambra the first choice destination for tourists with the construction of Solution Fun City. The Fun City which is expected to become a game changer in the social life of not just Ndi Anambra but global tourists will contain an amusement park, Water Park, country club and other attractions. Another upcoming tourism centre under the Soludo administration is in the works to be built at Agulu Lake environment.

 

Also the State government has intervened in Ogba-Ukwu Caves and Waterfalls, Owerre-Ezukala and Ogbunike Cave by providing access roads to the caves, developing conveniences, tourism information desk, relaxation points, extension of staircases, installation of handrails and changing rooms for tourists. The ongoing construction of over three hundred and forty kilometers of roads in the State when completed will also impact positively on the tourism sector.

 

The Ministry of Culture, Entertainment and Tourism is currently compiling a list of potential tourism and heritage sites in liaison with the Anambra State Association of Town Unions, ASATU. Other aspects of tourism including cultural and educational tourism and support for various cultural and tourism activities in the State are prioritized by the State government.

 

Significantly as one of the strategies designed to boost tourism in Anambra State through the promotion of the Visual Art and Crafts Sector, the Ministry of Culture, Entertainment and Tourism has slated a Mega Arts Exhibition starting from today 27th till Saturday 30th September, 2023 with the theme: “Arts: Organic Innovative Solutions For Economic Prosperity. Already, Art and crafts professionals from within and outside the state have started arriving to showcase their works and talents at the event scheduled to hold at Oma Event Centre Awka. According to the Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment And Tourism, Comrade Don Onyenji, the Solution Government led by the solution Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo is working to improve all sectors of the economy, including the skills in Arts and Crafts

 

Truly, Anambra State will soon become the destination for tourists from different parts of the world. Ndi Anambra, both indigenes and residents, are, therefore, called upon to support the Solution government in building that tourism hub.
