Contrary to reports that sixteen Nigerians in China have been infected with the ravaging Coronavirus epidemic, the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr Zhou Pingjian says no Nigerian is infected with the deadly virus.


Ekwi Ajide of our Abuja Bureau reports that the Chinese Ambassador who made the clarification in Abuja insisted that no Nigerian is so far affected by the virus, which has recorded twenty one thousand, five hundred and fifty eight suspected cases with three hundred and sixty one persons dead since it broke out in China.


The Chinese embassy in Nigeria said there are sixty Nigerians living in Wuhan, the Chinese city where the coronavirus broke out and they are all adhering to the advisory issued by the World Health Organization, WHO.


According to him, the total number of confirmed cases of the novel Coronavirus infection climbed to seventeen thousand, two hundred and five while twenty one thousand, five hundred and fifty eight people suspected of being infected in Chinese mainland.


He explained that according to the China National Health Commission, a total of three hundred and sixty one people had die of the disease while four hundred and seventy five people had been discharged from hospital after recovery.


Ambassador Pingjian assured that comprehensive and rigorous containment and mitigation measures have been taken care of to protect people around the world and not only the people of China.


He commended the international community and Nigeria for its full understanding and support to China and called on all countries to adopt a responsible attitude, work together to combat the virus and avoid overreaction that may result in more negative spillover effects.


The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria assured that Corona virus is not a death sentence therefore, people should not panic.
