The Anambra State government is collaborating with Organized Labour in the state to provide quality health care for civil servants in the state.

 

This alliance was formed when the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Anambra state chapter led by its chairman, Comrade Humphrey Nwafor paid a courtesy visit to the Managing Director of Anambra state Health Insurance Agency, Dr Simeon Onyemechi at his office in Awka.

Other members of the Organized Labour who accompanied Comrade Nwafor on the visit were the state President, National Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, Comrade Chikwelu Adigwe, state Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Dr Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, State Secretary of NLC, Comrade Gaus Chukwuka and the Secretary, Nigeria Civil Service Union, comrade Kingsley Egumba.

 

Briefing the ASHIA Managing Director on the reason for the visit, the NLC chairman said that ahead of Workers Day celebration coming up on the first of May 2024, the organized labour is planning a one-week action parked activities that would usher in the Worker’s Day, talks on health as well as health care outreach to workers in Anambra.

Comrade Nwafor while appreciating ASHIA for working tirelessly to give Ndi Anambra the best health care services, commended the ASHIA boss for his continued determination to ensure quality and affordable health care delivery to the Anambra populace, noting that the scheme has helped in no small measures in boosting the healthcare statues of Ndi Anambra, a reason he said was what informed their visit to solicit partnership with the agency for the good of the workers.

 

The Chairman of NUJ , Anambra state council, Dr Odogwu who is the chairman, 2024 May Day organizing committee appealed to the ASHIA boss to provide health talks on the need to maintain healthy living, provide free eye check and issuance of glasses to those who may need it and other health services they can render to give workers a sense of belonging and to also give opportunity for workers who are yet to enroll into the scheme to do so, even as he thanked the agency’s boss for not deviating from the purpose that birthed ASHIA, as that is why the organized labour chose to partner them.

Responding, Dr Onyemechi said that a lot of workers had already enrolled into the scheme and stressed the need for everyone to go on regular health checks, know their numbers in terms of blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol and others, noting that it is better to promote healthy lifestyle and prevent some killer diseases like stroke, diabetes and many others.

 

While assuring his visitors that ASHIA will provide health services to the workers and also lecture them on the need to maintain good health status and how to control what they eat and drink, he promised to involve sister health agencies and organizations to ensure a successful outing.

 

In a vote of thanks, the NULGE President, comrade Adigwe said that the ASHIA boss has been going out of his way to ensure that Local government workers were enrolled into the scheme and has always assisted any of them that is experiencing challenges while assessing the scheme.
