Chairman of Anambra State Sports Development Commission, Chief Tony Oli says, first phase of the ongoing work at Awka City Stadium is sixty percent completed
Chief Oli stated this during the latest edition of Meet The Media held at Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka.

The Sports helmsman described the stadium as one of the legacy projects of the Obiano-led administration, pointing out that when completed, there is no competition that can’t be hosted there.

Speaking on the proposed playground for Anambra communities, Chief Oli noted that a lot of issues including land, cropped up which is why within the 2020 budget proposal, the Commission proposed establishment of ten play grounds in each senatorial zone, which he said, would serve as a template in the future.
Chief Oli explained that the Vice Chairman of the State Football Association is currently piloting the affairs of the Association.

He explained that election into the leadership of the association was held and the chairman elect did not get up to fifty one percent of the total votes cast, as such a bye election will be held according to the constitution of the association.
According to him, Anambra state government is creating the environment for sports to flourish and disclosed that the state has been embarking on partnership with the private sector, especially in football, announcing that maiden edition of football match featuring Anambra Babes and Anambra Bombers, will be unveiled on the 28th of December, 2020.

He enumerated other achievements of Obiano’s administration in sports advancement to include Community Shield Cup and regular representation at the National Sports Festival, among others, adding that as part of efforts towards building female talents, female footballers and others have qualified to represent the state at the forthcoming Sports festival.

He noted that the facilities built and used during the police games are still in tact, noting that qualifiers for the upcoming National Sports Festival is currently undergoing training at the facilities.
