Activities lined up to mark the fifteenth anniversary of the Anglican
Diocese of Aguata has ended with a special thanksgiving service at the
Cathedral Church of Saint John, Ekwulobia, in Aguata Local Government
Area.


The service was attended by prominent individuals including Governor
Willie Obiano, top government functionaries, Council of Knights and
Ladies Auxillary Clergy and their Wives, among others.


Blessing Uchendu reports that Aguata Diocese, which is one of the one hundred and sixty-two Dioceses of the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion, was inaugurated by a one-time Archbishop Metropolitan and Primate of all Nigeria, Most Reverend Jasper Akinola on fourth September, 2005.


Speaking during the event, Governor Willie Obiano who was represented
by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Awka
Capital Territory Development Authority, Venerable Amaechi Okwuosa,
commended the Diocese for its numerous achievements and assured them
of more government support.


Governor Obiano who charged Ndi Anambra to enroll in the State Health
Insurance Scheme, to ensure a healthy living called on parents to
always monitor their children to check the high rate of cultism and
drug abuse in the society.


He commended the Diocese for its plan to build a Micro finance bank,
noting that it would go a long way in checking the unemployment rate
in the Country.


Earlier in a sermon, the Anglican Bishop of Aguata Diocese, Right
Reverend Samuel Ezeofor, cautioned the faithful against acts capable
of bringing upon them the wrath of God, especially idolatry.
He charged Christians to always remember their roots, regretting that
many Christians, especially those in the diaspora never ask about
their home churches and called on such people to have a re-think.

In their separate remarks, the member representing Aguata Constituency
One at the Anambra State House of Assembly, Dr Carter Umeh and the
President, Aguata Council of Knights, Sir Isaiah Ezezika and Chairman
Board of GOSIFE Micro Finance Bank, Reverend Godwin Okonkwo,
appreciated the efforts of the past and present leaderships of the
Diocese, calling on the people of Aguata Diocese to continue with
their support for more robust development in the diocese.

The service featured the preferment of Reverend Canon Wisdom Otaluka
as an Archdeacon, laying of the foundation stone of the GOSIFE Micro
Finance Bank, a project of the Diocese, inauguration of the Diocesan
Palace Ministry, octogenarian ministry, abroad and diaspora ministry,
presentation of Aguata Diocesan Vision 2030, cutting of anniversary
cake and Special renditions, amongst others.


The President of Aguata Diocesan Women’s Ministry, Mrs Chinyere
Ezeofor and the Diocesan Legal team led by the Chancellor Justice
Peter Obiora were among those that attended the ceremony.
