The Nigerian Peace Corps Establishment Bill has passed first reading on the floor of the senate.

This followed the passage of the bill in the House of Representatives in February which was immediately transmitted to the Senate.

Reacting to the progress of the bill, the Anambra State Commandant of Peace Corps Nigeria, Mr. Innocent Okolo, expressed happiness with the level of importance the Senate placed on the bill which he said proved that the bill will address some of the silent issues confronting the country when passed into law.

He expressed expectation that President Bola Tinubu, who he said is Youth-friendly will be keen to sign it into law.

Mr Okolo explained that men and officers of the corps are ready to offer their services towards developing and restoring peace and tranquility to all parts of the country while assuring that they have been trained and retrained to be ready for such national assignments.

The Peace Corps of Nigeria, established over twenty-five years ago by Dr. Dickson Akor is incorporated in Nigeria under the Company and Allied Matters Act, CAMA, and accorded recognition through the Federal Ministry of Youth Development.

It was granted licence to operate in the country as a nongovernmental organization.
