Fire fighters in Anambra State have joined their counterparts the world over to commemorate 2024 International Fire Fighters Day.

 

International Fire Fighters Day is celebrated on the fourth of May every year to recognize the contributions of fire fighters to the growth and development of the society.

This year’s celebration has its theme as “the importance of “fire prevention and safety in our contemporary society”.

 

To commemorate the day, fire fighters in Anambra organised a road show to create awareness on the importance of fire fighters and their services.

The road show kicked off from Aroma junction through UNiZIK junction to Kwata junction, and back to Aroma junction.

 

Speaking after the road show at their office in Awka, the new Fire Chief in the state, Engineer Chukwudi Chiketa explained that they joined the rest of the world to create awareness on the efforts of fire fighters in combating fire disaster and save lives, noting that there is need for the fire fighters to be alive to continue to work for the society.

Engineer Chiketa appreciated Governor Chukwuma Soludo for providing equipment for the thirteen fire stations in the state by providing the trucks and other necessary gadget and logistics needed for smooth operations.

 

He appealed for more support to enable them perform more efficiently ..

 

On his part, the immediate past Fire Chief in the state, Engineer Martin Agbili, who is also the Coordinator Africa Continent International Fire Fighters Day celebration said that the day was set aside to appreciate fire fighters in the society as he said that they go through a lot of hurdles to safeguard the environment as according to him, many lose their lives and others sustain injuries that will subject them to perpetual suffering.

Engineer Agbili who is now the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth Development said that fire fighters render selfless services and make sacrifices, commitment, calling for the need for them to safeguard their immediate environment against hazards.
