(1) To the glory of God, there is no reported case of coronavirus in Anambra state as at Tuesday, 7th April, 2020.

However, Ndi Anambra should note that Coronavirus is real. Stay alive by staying at home as directed by the state government.

  • Wash your hands regularly with soap for 20 seconds each time. Allow the hands to dry.
  • Use hand sanitizers regularly.
  • Stop shaking hands, hugs and kisses.
  • Obey other Anambra state government coronavirus advisory and directives
  • Avoid public gatherings. Anambra state government has banned burials, community festivals and so on. Ndi Igwe and PGs of Anambra communities that disobey this directive will be held responsible.
  • The ban on nite clubs, bars and restaurants is still in place.
  • Restrictions on passenger numbers for tricycle, shuttle bus and commercial buses are still in place.
  • No Keke or tricycle rider should carry more than two passengers at a time.
  • Drivers of shuttle buses must not carry more than 3 passengers at a time.
  • Drivers of township and mini buses must not carry more than 5 passengers at a time.

(2) Anambra state boundary closures came into effect ‪midnight‬, Monday, 30th March, 2020. Everybody please stay at home.

  • Only vehicles carrying food items and medicines will be allowed passage.

(3) All markets in Anambra state closed on Monday, 30th March 2020. Only shops selling food items and medicines are authorised to remain open.

(4) Anambra state government as part of its preparations to stop the spread of coronavirus has done the following:

  • Set up a COVID-19 Action Committee with His Excellency, Governor Willie Obiano as Chairman.
  • His Excellency, Governor Willie Obiano has addressed Ndi Anambra and residents in statewide broadcasts on the 19th of March, 2020 and 2nd April, 2020 to update on the state government’s COVID-19 prevention efforts.
  • Members of Anambra state COVID-19 Action Committee have also on regular basis updated Ndi Anambra on their activities.
  • The state government has mounted a massive awareness campaign on all media platforms to enlighten Ndi Anambra on the threat of Coronavirus.
  • Designated and equipped 3 protection centres and surge centre.
  • The centres are Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku-Awka, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi and Onitsha General Hospital.
  • Set up a 250-bed surge facility at NYSC orientation camp at Mbaukwu/Umuawulu.
  • Set up a 16-bed Protection Centre at the General Hospital Onitsha described as one of the best in the country today.
  • Two designated (60- bed each) Surge Centers at Ekwulobia General Hospital and Umueri General Hospital are to be equipped by Fidelity Bank and Access Bank within a week.
  • Trained medical personnel in collaboration with Nigeria Centre For Disease Control (NCDC) on coronavirus medical protocols
  • Put all in place to have the capacity to begin COVID-19 testing in the state before the second half of April 2020.
  • Anambra state Ministry of Basic Education on the 1st of April, 2020 launched Anambra Teaching On Air (Radio/TV and web learning) for SS3 students in partnership with Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS).
  • Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra state has announced an Economic Stimulus Package for Ndi Anambra.
  • Approved 10% refund on all personal income taxes paid by business owners and traders in Anambra state in 2019.
  • Approved a two-month waiver to Keke and shuttle bus operators in the state on the usual permits they pay. The grace period covers the months of April and May, 2020.
  • The leadership of the Tricycle Union and the Bus and Shuttle Bus Drivers Union have also given a two-month waiver to Keke and Shuttle bus drivers.

(5) Anambra state government has taken delivery of key medical equipment and supplies for Anambra state coronavirus isolation centres. The items include hospital beds and drawers, oxygen concentrator, electric suction, patient monitor, personal protective equipment (PPE) for care givers including protective masks, hand gloves and so on.

(6) The state government will soon commence the distribution of 3 million masks to residents of Anambra State’s 181 communities. Government’s intention in handing out 3 million masks is to ensure that after the 14-day shutdown of the state, no one will step out of their home without wearing a facial mask. The Czech Republic is relying largely on heavy use of facial masks to minimize the incidence of Coronavirus in its territory.

(7) The state government commenced the fumigation of the 63 markets in Anambra State on Tuesday, 7th April 2020 to help reduce the toxicity of the business environment and minimize the exposure of Ndi Anambra to different kinds of infections.

(8) The state government has commenced the distribution of free bags of rice to persons aged 70 years and above in the state.

(9) Anambra state government is appealing to Ndi Anambra and companies operating in the state to support its efforts to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in the state. This is the practice the world over.
