Research has shown that about fourteen point three millions of Nigerians have used sycho active drugs thereby endangering their lives.

A US based Catholic Priest, Reverend Father Livinus Obianusi stated this in Awka while reacting to drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

He said that implications of drugs abuse are enormous which should be a deterrent to people but regretted that , addicts are ignorant of this.

Reverend Father Obianusi disclosed that many countries are working hard to address the issue of illicit drug abuse but pointed out that Nigeriains are not doing enough presently, noting that government should ensure that money budgeted for handling of drug abuse is be well utilize even as he suggested putting up rehabilitation centers in all the local government areas in the country.

Reverend Father Obianusi disclosed that drug abuse affects both the addicts and the society including psychological, sociological and behavioural implications.
He called on government, families church and schools to partner in instilling the right attitude into the mind of young ones so as to build their minds while growing up.

The Priest further called on parents to spend more time with their wards to help enhance their studies and direct their lives, lamenting that many youths deviate through friends who encourage them to embrace bad values .

Reverend Father Obianusi also called on government to embark on more sensitization campaign against drug abuse, warning youths to desist from such acts to live fulfilled life.
