The eight editions of Obizi unity cup competition organized for youths of Awka South Constituency two has commenced with Amawbia Foothill Academy beating Solar Spiders, Nibo by two goals to one.

 

The tournament tagged “Under thirteen “, which is being sponsored by the Deputy Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly and member representing Awka South Two Constituency, Chief Chukwuma Okoye, is for all the communities that are under Awka South Constituency Two.

Speaking at the end of the opening match held at Saint Mark’s Church, Umuawulu, Right Honourable Okoye explained that the essence of the tournament is to promote peaceful coexistence, unity and tackle youth restiveness in Anambra State.

 

The Deputy Speaker announced that the ten best players discovered at the competition will be taken to Denmark for the advancement of their football careers.

He revealed that the Obizi unity cup competition is also organized in memory of his friend; popularly known as ” Amuluonye na ego”, who contributed immensely to the development of Umuawulu community, and to make the youth discover their hidden talents and potential for the development of the constituency, the state and the country at large.

 

On his part, the Transition Committee Chairman of Area, Mr. ThankGod Anago, who described sports as a unifying competition that must be developed to achieve total peace, commended the Deputy Speaker for taking the youths away from social vices and engaging them positively.

The Managing Director, Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, Mr. Osy Onuko, who noted that sports is a veritable tool for unity in the society, revealed that through sports, one can become self-reliant and contribute to the development of the society.

He lauded the sponsor of the tournament for the initiative and urged others to emulate him so that more youths would be engaged positively.
