The Centre for Environmental Impact Analysis And Laboratory Services Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka has commenced the third phase of special training workshop on Waste Management, Environment and Entrepreneurship in Awka. The capacity building programme is in collaboration with Nivi Chim Consult, Chicason Group, Carbon Africa and some international collaborators.

The programme which will run for thirteen months till December next year targets to train two thousand participants in batches.
The participants were drawn from government ministries, private sector, investors, developers, industrialists and non governmental organisations.
In his address at the opening session of the programme, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Charles Esimone said the programme is in line with the vision of his administration and  key focus of the University in human capital development and expressed satisfaction that the Centre is progressing at a commendable pace.
Professor Esimone represented by the Coordinator of the Centre, Professor Hugh Maduka said the capacity building programme offers participants opportunity to improve their skills and resumes for efficient service delivery as well as becoming self relevant. “Human resources development is key index in development  and Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka has this as major focus in its  academic activities. The University lays premium on using the excellence to maintain excellence”, he added.
Also speaking, a former Managing Director of Anambra Waste Management Authority and the Managing Director, Chief Executive Officer, Nivi Chim Consult Mr Amechi Akorah said the primary objective of the training is to produce necessary manpower to drive the protection of the environment through effective waste management and provide participants with necessary knowledge and skills on Waste to Wealth entrepreneurship to create awareness on numerous opportunities in building careers and generating wealth through caring and protecting the environment.
Mr Akorah explained that in addition to the training programme at the centre, they are  also involved in training different categories of people in various parts of the state, South-East and Nigeria on Waste management initiatives, after which they are enrolled for National Business and Technical Examination Board, NABTEB examination to receive necessary certificates on conversion of waste to valuable items.
He said they would strengthen collaboration with government at all levels and other stakeholders to expand the programme to achieve the objectives of eliminating waste in the environment and entrenching international best practices. “We want to produce environment protection ambassadors and waste managers with entrepreneurial knowledge and skills to explore opportunities in the sector” , he explained.
In their separate reactions, two of the participants, Mr Stanley Okonkwo of Anambra State Traffic Management Agency ATMA and Lady Helen Ezeani of Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs expressed confidence that the knowledge  gained from the training would improve their services.
