President Muhammadu Buhari will today unveil Nigeria’s Central Bank Digital Currency, CBDC known as theeNaira, in Aso Rock, Abuja.
The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Director, Corporate Communications, Mr. Osita Nwanisobi, who disclosed this in a statement, said that the launch of the eNaira with the theme, “Same Naira, more possibilities” is a culmination of several years of research work by the apex bank.
Mr. Nwanisobi noted that the eNaira, is aimed at advancing the boundaries of payments system in order to make financial transactions easier and seamless for every strata of the society.
He said that the eNaira marks a major step forward in the evolution of money and the CBN is committed to ensuring that the eNaira, like the physical Naira, is accessible by everyone.
According to Nwanisobi, following today’s formal launch by the president, the CBN would further engage various stakeholders as it enters a new age consistent with global financial advancement.
