The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says it has deepened the use of technology in the conduct of elections in Nigeria to ensure success of the electoral process.

The National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee of Independent National Electoral Commission, Barrister Festus Okoye disclosed this during an interactive session with INEC Press corps in Abuja.

Ekwi Ajide of our Abuja Bureau reports that Barrister Okoye reiterated the Commission’s determination to conduct a free and fair elections come 2023.

He revealed that INEC has mapped out elaborate plans on how to organise a hitch-free elections in Anambra and beyond, adding that the Commission will continue to deploy technology which has proved successful in few states, including Edo Governorship election.

The National Commissioner, however, said that though the Commission is working on the legislature to expedite action on the repeal and reform of the electoral law, Anambra gubernatorial election will be conducted under the existing INEC, Electoral Guidelines, but will be accompanied by technology just like in the Edo State governorship election.

He stressed that INEC has been consulting with various stakeholders to ensure that everybody is on the same page on the need to adopt the new INEC Framework, which will solve many problems in the electoral system.

The framework according to him, include conversion of the existing Voting Points to Polling Units in the next General Elections, even as he pointed out that when the new Polling Units are approved, Nigerians of eighteen years and above will have the opportunity to register and vote at Polling Units closest to them.
