The proposed amendment on a bill to establish a Federal University of Education, Aguleri has scaled through on the floor of the house.

The amendment, which sought to amend sections four and ten of the Bill was presented by the member representing Anambra East and West Federal Constituency,  Honourable Chinedu Obidigwe and aimed at providing for the qualification of the chairman of the governing council as well as make provisions for the protection of intellectual property rights of academics.

Ekwi Ajide of our Abuja bureau, reports that the billed had been passed in the eight Assembly but failed to get presidential assent owing to flaws in the two sections.

Proposing the amendments to the sections, Honourable Obidigwe expressed hope that the bill will pass through executive scrutiny and get assented to by the president.

Speaking to the ABS after the sitting, Honourable Obidigwe said the university if established, will among other things, ease the burden of university admission on parents and their wards in the region, create more employment opportunities and ensure development of the host community.

On his part, Honourable Obinna Chidoka, who seconded the proposal, expressed confidence that it gets the consideration of the executive board.
