The Anambra State Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, Indigenous Artwork Culture and Tourism Dr. Christian Mmadubuko has urged Ndi Igbo not to allow their culture and traditions to go into extinction.

Dr. Mmadubuko gave the advice during the annual festival of Onwa Isaa of Eziagulu Aguleri, in Anambra East Local Government Area.
Correspondent Emmanuel Chigbata, reports that the event took place at the Ama Umuala Square, of the community.

The five – day festival held at Ama Umuala Square was aimed at reuniting and promoting the ancestral home of Eziagulu Uno, by initiating sustainable development projects that will enhance cultural oneness, peace, love and strength of Eziagulu people.

Cultural shows such as highlife, Ikwa abu, igbu oja, Izo okika, itu nyaka, display of masquerades, especially the Igbaike the most fearful masquerade in Aguleri and ipia Agba were part of activities making the celebration.

At sunset, the Enyi mmanwu masquerade trilled the audience even as nkponani shots resounded triggering overwhelming flow of excitements, that even the heavy downpour could not dampen the spirit of the colorful event.

Commissioner Mmadubuko, who danced with the community members in a joyous mood explained that showcasing of culture to the world is paramount as it defines people’s way of life, urging Ndi Igbo to uphold their culture.


Also speaking, the Chairman, Ikenga Ezi-Agulu Forum, Engineer Basil Manafa, said the festival calls for unity of purpose among members of the community to facilitate achievement of greatness through interactions . In her remarks, Onyeoma Ekwebalu an executive member of Iyom Eziagulu cultural dancers, equally urged women to always participate in cultural activities and never see the event as fetish.

A member of ABS Board of Directors, Mr. Marcel Manafa was also present during the occasion.

The event was capped with drama presentation and cultural dance by different age grades in Eziagulu.
