A community leader in Anam, Chief Simeon Nnekwe, has decried the
incessant land disputes pervading most communities in Igbo land.
Speaking on the sad development, Chief Nnekwe regretted that land
disputes have ravaged, and in extreme situations, wiped families and
communities in some parts.

The community leader, who was speaking on the event of the current
hostilities between Alah/Onugwa and Odekpe communities in Anambra West
Local Government Area, called for Anambra State Government’s quick
intervention, to prevent further loss of lives and property.

Chief Nnekwe said the two border communities between Anambra and Kogi
States had lived in peace for long before December eight, 2019 when
misunderstanding crept into their relationship over land dispute.

He expressed gratitude that Anambra State Government, intervened
through the Transition Committee Chairman of Anambra West local
government area, Honourable Sylvester Okafor and a few other persons,
but regretted that hostilities continued even as they were still on
that peace initiative.

He expressed the belief that once the state government moves in
detachments of security operatives in the disputed area, both
communities will observe cease fire, thereby creating conducive
atmosphere for lasting peace.

According to him, properties and farm crops worth millions of naira
were destroyed, leaving many women and children as widows and orphans.
The people of Alah/Onugwa and Odekpe as it were, have no other place
of respite apart from the Anambra State Government upon which they
solely rely for an end to hostilities.

The efforts of Honourable Chinedu Obidigwe, Honourable Patrick Udoba
and Honourable Okafor, as well as the royal fathers, who were members
of the peace committee, cannot be over emphasized.

Chief Nnekwe while remembering the November farming season that is
fast approaching, bemoaned their fate if there is no amicable
resolution by then as they can do practically nothing except by the
timely intervention of Anambra State Government.
