Awka South Division of the Nigerian Red Cross Society has won the 2024 divisional First Aid Competition organized by the Anambra State Branch of the Nigerian Red Cross Society.

 

The competition, which took place at the branch headquarters of the Nigerian Red Cross Society Amawbia, had in attendance ten out of the twenty-one divisions in the state, observers, state instructors, trainers and some divisional chairmen.

While the contest covered theoretical aspect of picking a question, the practical aspect centered on attending to unconscious not breathing casualty, unconscious but breathing casualty, amputated hand and fracture of the lower limb casualties.

 

Awka South Division scored seventy per cent to clinch the trophy against their closest contender, Idemili South; which scored fifty-eight percent, while Aguata came third with fifty-five percent.

Speaking, one of the participants from Nnewi North, Miss Evangeline Enekwizu, who expressed joy for witnessing and participating in the contest, described it as her first experience, and appealed for more and constant tutorials.

 

Chairman of Awka South Division, Chief Emmanuel Ezeobi, while describing victory as sweet, applauded the divisions that participated in the competition and urged those that did not to key into keeping humanity alive.

The competition got to its climax when Awka South team overwhelmingly took to the streets of Amawbia with their trophy; singing victorious songs.
