The Post Primary Schools Service Commission, PPSSC, Awka, has called on members of Anambra State Association of Town Union, ASATU, to aid schools in their various communities.

PPSSC Chairman, Professor Nkechi Ikediugwu, made the call when ASATU invited her at their Government House secretariat where she x-rayed some of the issues affecting the commission.

She talked about communities helping to secure and build fences in schools, even as her commission hopes to distribute laboratory equipment to schools in no distance time.

On students fighting teachers, Professor Ikediugwu pleaded with Traditional rulers and Presidents-General to ask parents to warn their children and wards doing so, otherwise they would face suspension or expulsion, and when expelled, they will never be re-admitted into any school in the state.

The PPSSC Chairman also asked that the union members should be part of club of patrons in their various community schools to help in solving most of their problems.

On re-instating Parents Teachers Association, Professor Ikediugwu said that the commission still have PTA, but that no PTA levy should be collected from any student, and on having security men, she said that Governor Chukwuma Soludo promised to approve the recruitment of non-teaching staff; where security will come in.

She further noted that fencing of schools is not what government can do all alone because there are many schools in the state, and therefore called for assistance from communities.

In his contribution, ASATU National President, Barrister Titus Akpudo, asked Principals to build school cum community relationship to help them get some of the requests attended to.

He insisted that there must be people on the state government’s payroll as security men in schools, even as he pointed out that some communities do not have the financial capacity to build fences in their schools.

Board members of PPSSC accompanied Professor Ikediugwu on the visit.
