The Managing Director of Transport Company of Anambra State, TRACAS, Mr. Chike Obiakor has described the allegations by some drivers of the company that the management is making things difficult for them and syphoning their money as unfounded and baseless.

Correspondent Chibuzor Okoye reports that

speaking to the ABS in his office in Awka, Mr. Obiakor said that what brought their agitation was that the company introduced tracking device in order to monitor all their vehicles, know how many that loaded in their depots and where they are at every moment in time, which some drivers are kicking against.

The TRACAS Managing Director explained that they brought the idea of the tracking device because of the numerous ways some of their drivers shortchange the Anambra State government, adding that some of them go to peoples’ houses, carry passengers, without giving the company its ten percent as well as passengers manifest.

According to Mr. Obiakor, they agreed that every driver that loads, will remit ten percent fee to the company and take-home ninety percent, but some of them do not abide by the agreement, even when the management subsidized the price of the device by fifty percent in order to help the drivers.

The TRACAS boss insisted that any driver that wants to do business with them must install a tracking device for a seamless business deal, and called on those whose agreement papers have expired to come for revalidation, and made it clear that they even told some of the drivers that cannot pay instantly to come and install the device and pay later.

Mr. Obiakor who said that some of the drivers have complied and installed the device, revealed that those agitating are not up to one percent of their drivers, and emphasised that nobody is shortchanging them under any guise.

On the allegation that the management of TRACAS syphoned seventy billion naira, the TRACAS boss wondered where the management would see such money, even as he commended governor Chukwuma Soludo for his numerous developmental strides in the state.
