The Vicar of Saint Thomas Aquinas Parish, Awka, Reverend Father Paschal Nnajiofor has called on mothers to make proper upbringing of their children their utmost priority to salvage the moral decadence in the society.

 

Reverend Father Nnajiofor made the call during a mass held to mark Mother’s Sunday celebration of the parish.

 

It was a moment of joy to mothers who worshipped at the parish as they sang and offered thanks to God for making them mothers.

While thanking God for the gift of motherhood to humanity, Reverend Father Nnajiofor enjoined mothers to raise their children in fear of God and be peace makers where ever they are to guarantee a better society for all.

 

In her speed, the Chairperson of Catholic Women Organisation of the parish, Mrs. Ngozi Nwankwo explained that Mother’s Sunday is a day set aside by the catholic church to honour women and to remind them of their roles in their families, communities and the society at large.

 

Mrs. Nwankwo who noted that being a mother is a high calling, called on mothers to always devote quality time to their families by teaching their children the principles of honesty, humility, hard work, patience and tolerance for them to be useful to their families and the society.

 

In their remarks, the member representing Aguata One Constituency in Anambra State House of Assembly, Honourable Tony Muobuike and the Commissioner for Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Barrister Tony Ifeanya thanked mothers for the great role they are playing in their immediate families and communities and prayed God to continue to give them the grace to discharge their responsibilities.

The Secretary of CWO, Saint Thomas Aquinas Parish, Awka, Lady Uju Ifediba of the ABS who thanked God for making her a mother, observed that the current economic hardship in Nigeria has compelled some mothers to abandon their duties at home and devote more time to their careers, urging such mothers to retrace their steps and put their faith in God who can do all things.

 

The mother’s Sunday celebration also featured prayers for mothers and the Nigeria nation.
