The Anambra State Deputy Governor, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim has encouraged Ndi Igbo to uphold their culture and tradition as it remains their identity and what distinguishes them from other tribes.

 

Deputy Governor Ibezim gave the charge during the traditional marriage ceremony of his niece, Dr Ozioma Ibezim, the first daughter of the Archbishop Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger and Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim, and her heartthrob, Dr Chukwudi Nmuoto of Ozubulu in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of the State.

Deputy Governor Ibezim, who emphasized on the importance of culture and tradition in any tribe, noted that it is important for Ndi Igbo to preserve their rich cultural heritage.

 

While expressing happiness on the marital journey of his niece, Dr Ibezim encouraged her and the husband to always cherish each other and never give up on themselves even when the journey seems tough, wishing them a happy union.

Earlier, the parents of the bride, Most Reverend Alexander and Martha Ibezim thanked God for His faithfulness in their family and the fulfillment of their daughter’s dream of a right partner, wishing their daughter well and prayed for God’s hands to uphold her marriage.

In an interview, the state Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Comrade Don Onyenji described the traditional marriage of the new couple as real display of Igbo culture and tradition, ranging from attires of the Archbishop and others, decorations and dishes served at the occasion, and asked Ndigbo to always promote their culture as it is what defines them.

The Bride, Dr Ozioma thanked God for making her dream come through and explained that in searching for her life partner, she involved God whom she described as perfect matchmaker, and expressed the hope that God will accomplish her plans in her new home.

 

The event featured paying of bride price, wine carrying, dance by the new couple among others.
