The Managing Director, Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, ASHIA, Dr Simeon Onyemaechi has mandated the Officers in Charge of primary healthcare facilities to always refer any critically ill enrollees who are under the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund to their designated secondary healthcare facilities.

Dr. Onyemaechi expressed displeasure at the low outcome of secondary care referrals recorded within the year.

Dr Onyemaechi made this known at a one-day retraining of OIC’s on the use of BHCPF Monitoring & Evaluation collection tool at the IDK center Awka.

He added that a health professional shouldn’t risk the life of his patient and must always know when to refer patients, limit themselves to primary level of care treatments.

Dr Onyemaechi while speaking on the poor access to health care, cautioned against the submission of encounter forms even when enrollees don’t access care and advised them to desist from such fraudulent act.

The BHCPF Focal person, Mrs. Okpalanwaka Juliet, while retraining them on the M&E data collection tool, reminded the OIC’s to submit their Data in the first week of the next month for proper documentation and validation.

Highlight of the exercise includes the distribution of the third phase of BHCPF enrollment Identity cards.
