The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has expressed satisfaction with the partnership with Anambra State Government in promoting life of women and children.

Speaking at the flag off of the first round of optimized Maternal, Newborn Child Health week in Umueri, Anambra East Local Government Area, the Chief of Field Office, UNICEF, Enugu, Mrs Juliet Chiluwe said the programme is targeted at strengthening delivery and utilization of health services using 600 Primary Healthcare, secondary and tertiary facilities as well as outreach and temporary sites in the state.

Mrs Chiluwe said the event was a major intervention towards promoting right of children in Nigeria and also scaling up demands for primary health services.

She emphasized the need for mothers to eat and serve their children healthy and nutritious meals, stressing that several local foods were far more nutritious than fast food and other inorganic food preferred by today’s kids.

Mrs Chiluwe explained that UNICEF has made many interventions in the state including promoting and protecting rights of children and supporting flood victims and disclosed that for over 14 years the agency has been working closely with ASPHCDA, RUWASA, SEMA and other health institutions.
