The wife of Anambra State Governor, Doctor Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano has advocated  the sustenance of support system as an essential factor for healthy living and general well-being of Persons Living with Sickle Cell Disorder
Mrs. Obiano who made the advocacy in commemoration of the 2019 Sickle Cell Day, said it was important for family members, guardians, health clinicians and caregivers to be steadfast in their commitment to Persons Living with Sickle Cell Disorder to ensure that they live full and active life.
In a statement signed on her behalf by her  Chief Media Officer, Mr. Emeka Ozumba, Mrs Obiano noted that sustained support of loved ones required alertness to the symptoms in children, detection of signs of crisis and knowledge of appropriate action to be taken to help ease the pains.
She commended the dedication of health experts, social workers and others who are consistent in assisting sickle cell patients, and praised, what she described as, the incredible courage and perseverance of persons living with sickle cell disorder.
The Governor’s Wife, while reflecting on ways to avoid the menacing ailment, stressed the importance of sustained advocacy and enlightenment on the essentials for new partners in marriage to avoid the risks of spreading the Sickle Cell Anemia.
She therefore applauded the passage of the Sickle Cell Act by the Sixth Anambra State House of Assembly, which amongst other provisions, makes genotype test imperative.
