Anambra State Government has approved  the employment of over eighty more personnel to boost operations of Vehicle Inspection Services in the State.

 

The State Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Afam Mbanefo, announced this in Awka, during a retraining programme organised by his Ministry for Vehicle Inspection Officers, VIOs, in the State.

The programme, with the theme: “Effective Performance of Vehicle Inspection Services in the State as Panacea to Safer Roads, Preservation of Lives and Properties of Ndi Anambra”, attracted resource persons including  Barrister Fidelis Nnadi, who spoke on “Implementation and Enforcement of Road Traffic Regulation”, Engineer Pau l Bepeh represented by Engineer Stanley Agbor, who spoke on “Introduction and brief history of VIO and its functions”, Dr. Frank Nnaemeka, who spoke on “Communication and Conflict resolution”, among others.

 

Mr. Mbanefo, who explained that Governor Willie Obiano has equally signed Executive Order to enable Vehicle Inspection Officers function effectively in the State, promised that his Ministry will continue to implement programmes in that regard, expressing hope that the retraining programme will bring out best ways of managing information and the motoring public

 

In his remark, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Emma Ude-Akpeh, described Vehicle Inspection Officers as image of Government, who must be of good conduct at all times, expressing hope that after the retraining exercise, the State’s accident investigation unit will come alive in the interest of the motoring public.

The Chief Vehicle Inspection Officer of the State, Engineer McDonald Achum, who thanked the Ministry of Transport for the retraining programme, assured that the gains thereof will be used in achieving Government’s aim for the motoring publics.

Correspondent, Joseph Egbeocha reports that at the event attended by the Head of Transport Operations and Public Relation Officers of the Ministry, Messrs Christopher Okeke and Emeka Ilozor, the Chief Vehicle Inspection Officer of the Federation, Engineer Bepeh, presented books on Vehicle Inspection Services to the Commissioner and the Permanent Secretary, while participants asked questions on key areas in their operations.
