The Transmission Company of Nigeria has appealed to the Anambra State government to prevail on the people to desist from building, living, trading under or near transmission right of way.

The General Manager of Transmission Company of Nigeria, Enugu Region, Mr Nwani, made the appeal when he led some officials of the company to make a presentation at the Anambra State  Physical Planning Board Headquarters, at Amawbia.

Correspondent, Ejike Abana reports that present at the presentation were the Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Mr Uchenna Okafor, Executive Chairman Anambra State Physical Planning Board, Mr Chike Maduekwe, Secretary Board of Trustees Mgbuka, Obosi, Mr. Amaechi Agueze, among others.

The team who made a case on the inherent dangers of operating around transmission right of way identified Ugwuagba Mgbuka Obosi, and other areas as places that need attention.

According to Mr Nwani, when one lives in a house close to transmission lines, it has many health implications including cancer, electric shock, and others, emphasizing that their intention is to sensitize Ndi Anambra on those dangers.

In a remark the Commissioner for Trade and Commerce Mr  Okafor stressed that the essence of the meeting is for government to hear and understand them.

For Mr Maduekwe, the Board of Anambra State Physical Planning gets frequent disclaimers from Enugu Electricity Distribution Company about people occupying power lines, reiterating that it is the duty of the Transmission Company of Nigeria to highlight the dangers of obstructing high tension right of way, pointing out that it is by the grace of God that no major disaster have been recorded.
