Christian fathers have been urged to love their families and be role models to their children and the society at large.

 

A visiting priest at St Joseph ‘ Parish, Awka, Reverend father Felix Nwosu stated this during a homily to mark feast of St Joseph the Worker which was marked in Catholic Church as Father’s Day yesterday.

Among notable individuals present at the mass were the Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, Comrade Don Onyenji, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Allia, APGA, Barrister Sylvester Ezeokenwa, a former Commissioner for Information and Communication, Chief Majah Umeh, among others.

 

Addressing the fathers, Reverend father Nwosu whose message centered on love, charged fathers to love unconditionally and make sacrifices just as Christ did for mankind by paying the ultimate prize to save humanity.

Speaking to the ABS shortly after the service, the Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment and Tourism Comrade Onyenji said that fathers are saddled with the responsibility of catering for their families which makes them to always struggle and work very hard for the upkeep of their families.

Comrade Onyemji urged them never to relent but to continue to take care of their families and not to indulge in characters that would question their roles as fathers.

 

The National Chairman of APGA, Barrister Ezeokenwa noted that fathers should be celebrated as the pillars of society and those who make informed decisions as they play crucial roles in shaping the society, even as he explained that the roles of the fathers starting from the family defines how a society would be.

On his part, Chief Umeh said that the role of the fathers to the growth of the society cannot be over emphasized, adding that fathers play a vital role in the family in terms of child upbringing, advising them to sustain the momentum.

 

In their separate speeches, the Chairman, Catholic Men Organization, St Joseph parish, Awka, Mr. Chu-Martins Onunkwo and the Vice Chairman, Parish Council of the Church, Mr. Bruno Ibekilo, who was the past Chairman, CMO of the parish, said that fathers are the life wire of the society starting from the home and the church, describing fatherhood as a vocation ordained by God, urging them to make sacrifices in love for their families.

 

The event featured a presentation of a new dance and Adamma masquerade dance.
