Residents of the State have been urged to be calm amidst recent restrictions on food supply from Northern Nigeria to the South.

Anambra State Commissioner for Agriculture, Mechanization, Processing and Export, Mr Nnamdi Onukwuba gave the advice during an ABS Television Programme Good Morning Anambra where he discussed on ways of “Achieving Food Sufficiency in Anambra State”.

Correspondent, Chibuzo Obidike,  reports that according to Mr Onukwuba, the State government has initiated measures for free flow of food stuff around the State and expressed optimism that before the week runs out, normalcy with return as the State and federal government as well as northern groups and farmers are working tirelessly to halt the ugly encounter.

The Commissioner, while assuring Anambra residents of all-round food sufficiency noted that the current development serves as an eye-opener for all southern states to borrow the strategic agricultural revolution of Governor Willie Obiano to meet the needs of the people, and listed the “ugbo azuno” Scheme, school farming, increased rice and cassava productions among others which the Obiano’s government has, over the years, strengthened to boost the state agricultural output.

He said that the State government has equally mapped out plans for youth inclusiveness in agriculture, training and retraining of farmers for increased production in all aspects of agriculture and appreciated Chief Willie Obiano for his transformational agenda in the agricultural sector of the state which has also boosted the State’s economy.

Some callers to the programme Mrs. Chioma Ubachunwa, Dozie Mbionwu, Ifeyinwa Oguno, Theophilus Nweke and Okechukwu Onuegbu applauded the state government on its efforts in the agricultural sector and called for more attention on highly consumed agricultural produce to close the gap of dependency on other States.
