The ongoing sensitization programme  embarked upon by the office of the Governor of Anambra state on Disability Matters has visited Anambra West Local Government Area.


The team led by the Special Adviser to Governor Willie Obiano on Disability Matters, Barr. Chuks Ezewuzie arrived Umueze Anam the venue of the event amidst joy by their members.


Correspondent Chibuzor Okoye reports that the sensitization exercise which has already captured Anambra East, Oyi and Ayamelum Local Government areas was designed to be an avenue for the Office of the Governor on Disability Matters to meet their members in the various Local Government Areas of Anambra state, brainstorm with them, know their challenges with a view to addressing them in line with Governor Willie Obiano’s policies and programmes for the persons living with disabilities in the state.


Addressing their Anambra West members, Barr. Ezewuzie who thanked their members for making out time to come, despite the terrain of the Local Government Area  now that flood has started overflowing  the river bank, promised that they will ensure that they revisit the area  in dry season, to enable most of their members to attend.


Barr. Ezewuzie maintained that Governor Willie Obiano’s administration promises not to leave anyone behind in delivering dividends of democracy, especially persons living with disabilities in Anambra state and assured them of  better prospects ahead. 


The Anambra state Chairman, Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities, Comrade Ugochukwu Okeke in his remarks,  revealed that the tour was equally an avenue to explain to their members what government is doing for them as well as to know the impact all governments previous interventions to them have made in their lives. 


The Local Government Coordinator of Persons Living with Disabilities in Anambra West, Mrs. Agnes Igbanugo thanked their visitors and expressed delight that the sensitization exercise  will help to better their lots in the nearest future.


Bags of rice were  equally given to persons with disabilities in Anambra West by the Office of the Governor on Disability Matters as part of measures to cushion the economic effects of COVID-19.


Team of sign language interpreters led by the Special Assistant to Governor Willie Obiano on Sign Language Communications, Mr. Collins Joseph were on hand to make communication easy for  the deaf and dumb.
