Boys Scout Association Honours Veteran Members In Awka

Using the Boys Scout Association as a means of curtailing cultism amongst the young ones by productively engaging the minds of the youths came to the fore during the association’s activity designed to honor veteran members tagged “A Day with Ozo Omise” held in Awka.

The ceremony commenced with Quarter Guard parade for senior members of Boys Scout Association, later witnessed hoisting of scout flag with the show thrilling those present.

According to the Anambra State Scout Commissioner, Mr. Innocent Egwuatu, the ceremony was to honour Chief Michael Nwogbo known with his title name ‘Ozo Omise’, and others who have contributed immensely to reposition the association in the state.

He called on parents and government to come in and use scout as a way of grooming the youths to take positive paths in life, starting from schools.

Deputy Chairman of Awka South Local Government, Mr. Ikechukwu Anene, who was decorated and inducted into the scout movement, noted that scout helps in building people into positivity, reason he said he is identifying with the movement.

The President General of Amawbia Town Union and President, Patrons of Boys Scout Association, Anambra State, Engineer Godwin Aronu, emphasized that scout provides a platform to ensure discipline and skill for young persons, to enable them contribute positively to their environment.

Another decorated and inducted member of the scout, Mr. Clems Ezedinachi, who explained that scout is a vibrant movement, promised to help revamp the movement for societal growth through the young ones.

Later during the event, Chief Nwogbo, in company of veterans and senior scout members, was presented with a certificate of honour, amidst singing and gyration by scout members.

Son of the honoree, Mr. Chukwunonso Nwogbo, said it was wonderful for the father to be recognized for his contributions to the scout movement and appreciated members of the association for the gesture.

Other veterans honored at the event were Chief Patrick Nweke, Chief Edwin Ezeanya and Chief Asuzu.
