Activities marking the 2024 May Day celebration have ended with a Thanksgiving mass organized by the leadership of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC.

 

The Thanksgiving mass held at St Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, Awka was well attended by the Anambra State Head of Service, Barrister Theodora Igwegbe, and members of affiliate unions that make up the organised labour.

Delivering a homily, the Parish Priest of St Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, Awka, Reverend Father Francis -Micheal Enyisiobi, said that love is the highest commandment of God that factors in every other commandments, noting that love leads to sacrifice, unity, togetherness, oneness and purposeful coexistence.

 

Reverend Father Enyisiobi, while congratulating workers in Anambra for a successful celebration, called on government to promote their welfare as they are the life wire of the state, even as he advised the workers to ensure that they give their best in the interest of the state.

The state Head of Service, Barrister Igwegbe, expressed appreciation that the 2024 workers day was very successful, especially with the activities that were introduced by the new leadership of the NLC.

 

She noted that Anambra State Government is very interested in the welfare of workers in the state evidence in many policies that are in their favour, including settling the fourteen years litigation between the government and staff of the defunct Anambra State Water Corporation and ANSEPA, who are now receiving their money, as well as payment of arrears of pension and gratuities owed to workers since 2018.

Speaking after the mass, the Chairman of NLC, Anambra State chapter, Comrade Humphrey Nwafor, said he is exceptionally happy that all the activities were held successfully, which was why they decided to thank God in a special way.

 

He also thanked Anambra workers for their active participation in all the activities, which he said were innovations by his administration, and appreciated the ABS Managing Director, Sir Chido Obidiegwu, for the partnership with the organised labour that ensured that all their activities were publicised free of cost.

The Chairman of Planning Committee, 2024 May Day celebration and Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Anambra State Council, Dr Odogwu, Emeka Odogwu explained that planning the activities was an onerous task, but thanked God that it went on successfully, adding that he is ever ready to render services that would be required of him for the good of mankind.

 

The event featured special thanksgiving by members of the organised labour in Anambra State.
