Wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, has expressed worry over the growing cases of drug use among school children.

Mrs. Soludo who was speaking in Awka when she received staff of the Anambra State Command of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, said it has become very urgent to launch an action-driven campaign to mitigate the sad revelation.

She said that all stakeholders should join the campaign to win the fight, given the age brackets of persons involved, and called for closer monitoring by both parents and teachers, to save children from the dangerous situation.

The governor’s wife also stressed that schools should revive counselling programmes for students, monitor peer influences, and sustain moral education in and outside the school premises.

Mrs. Soludo also asked the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency to extend their anti drug education to primary and secondary schools, and put more intelligence on ground to cut off the distribution chain and go after syndicates that are into the illegal businesses.

She also appealed to parents and guardians to be more committed in raising their children and wards by always providing opportunities for them to express themselves, know their friends and also monitor their changing behaviours to be able to know when they are derailing.
