With decisive step towards curbing the menace of touting within Anambra State, a bill for a law to provide for the prohibition of touting in the state has been passed.

 

The executive bill, presented by the Majority leader of the House, and Member representing Ekwusigo constituency, Sir. Ikenna Ofodeme is aimed at prohibiting touting across all sectors in the State.

 

House of Assembly Correspondent, Emmanuel Chigbata reports that the bill underwent thorough scrutiny in the Committee of the Whole.

 

The bill was passed following a motion by the Majority Leader, Sir Ikenna for its third reading, and was seconded by the Minority Leader, Mr. Johnbosco Akaegbobi, representing Nnewi South Constituency One.

 

The Speaker of the Assembly, Right Honourable Somtochukwu Udeze, announced that the law would come into force from tenth April 2024, immediately it is assented to by Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

 

Speaking shortly after the plenary, the Majority Leader, Sir Ikenna said the bill once enacted into law, will empower authorities to crack down on individuals engaging in all forms of touting activities thereby restoring order and enhancing public safety across the State.

 

He lamented that touting has long been a problem, causing disruptions and inconveniences to residents and visitors alike, saying that by outlawing touting, the government aims to create a more conducive environment for business activities to thrive.

 

Sir Ikenna, maintained that the activities of touting have been reducing the revenue of the state, saying that the law will checkmate such ugly trend.
