The Marine Crafts Builders Association of Nigeria has underscored the need for government at all levels to partner the association in sensitizing the operators in the Marine sector; with a view to reducing boat mishaps across the country.

Speaking at a press briefing in Port Harcourt, the Director General of Marine Crafts Builders Association of Nigeria, Chief Clem Ifezue said horrendous boat mishaps have claimed many lives, pointing out that some of those deaths could be avoided with more knowledge by practitioners.

He advised Police Marine and workers in the jetty zones to up their games to help stem carnage on water by insisting that boats are sea-worthy, just as they have to implement zero tolerance for alcoholic drinks around the nation’s jetties.

According to Chief Ifezue, sea travelers and boat operators should always cross-check the information attached to every boat, adding that knowing the age, weight and other things can help people avoid overloaded or rickety boats, which have greater chances of capsizing mid sea.

On the recent palliative by the federal government, Chief Ifezue restated that the riverine areas needed it most to stabilize cost of agricultural produce, as well as transportation.
