The House of Representatives Ad-Hoc Committee investigating capital projects executed and funds repeated in appropriation acts from 2015 till date by Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government across the Nation has commenced public hearing.
Ekwi Ajide of our Abuja bureau reports that while declaring the hearing open, the Speaker House of Representatives,  Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila represented by the Leader of the House, Honourable Al-Hassan Ado Dogo charged the Committee led by Honourable Makki Yalleman, to utilise all the instrumentality of the legislature to expose corruption and uphold transparency so as to achieve a country that is worthy for all.
He noted that the exercise is not a means to witch hunt any body or agency but a means of bringing about public accountability. UP SOT
Earlier, the Chairman of the Ad-Hoc Committee, Honourable Makki Yalleman had urged affected agencies to provide them with accurate information adding that the Committee will not accept excuses as ignorance of the law is not in any a right. UP SOT
For the elated mover of the motion that brought about the constitution of the AD-HOC Committee,  Honourable Yusuf Gagdi,  the essence of the motion was for the need to verify details of all capital projects, expose corruption, inefficiency and reduce waste of national resources.
He said with the connstitution of the Committee, the House is embarking on its oversight function and ensuring that the monies released are used for what they were meant for and should not be seen as an affront to the executive or witch hunt. UP SOT
The hearing was adjourned to reconvene tomorrow after it had drilled the Nigeria Universities Commision, NUC and the Economic Financial Crimes Commission,  EFCC on their projects within the said period.
