The role of women in both the family and the society came to the fore, yesterday as members of the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists, NAWAOJ, visited and donated items to community children’s Home in Awka, as part of activities lined up by the group to mark the international women’s day.

Correspondent Kenechukwu Chukwudi reports that the International women’s day, is a day set aside to celebrate the women folk while also tackling issues that affects women, such as rape, domestic violence and denial of basic human right.

It was in the light of marking the day that the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists, Anambra State visited the Home and donated items for their upkeep.

The item includes, cartons of noodles, dozens of toilet tissue, cartons of milk, detergents, cartons of cabin biscuits amongst others.

Speaking during the visit, the Chairperson of Nigerian Association of Women Journalists, in Anambra State, Mrs. Frankline Onyekachi noted that women carry love in their nature, which as part of celebrating the women’s day thought it wise to donate to the community children’s Home and assist them with their donation.

Mrs. Onyekachi pointed out that women are special breed and should be cared for,  while  negative practices against women must stop, calling for prosecution of  those arrested for child torture at Onitsha.

In her remark, the Anambra State Secretary of Nigerian Association of Women Journalists Mrs. Uche Nworah said the day is to celebrate the achievements of women in different areas of human endeavor while also honouring them while Mrs. Ifeyinwa Iloanya emphasized the supportive roles of women in the family and society.

The group was received at the home by Mrs. Ndubuisi Grace,while  the visit featured the official presentation of the items to children of the home and prayers for the group.
