Parents have been advised to ensure proper training of their female children in school before marriage.
The member representing Onitsha South two Constituency at the state Assembly and the Deputy Chief Whip, Honourable Beverly Ikpeazu-Nkemdiche gave the advice while speaking with the ABS on the importance of girl child education in contemporary society, in Awka.
Honourable Ikpeazu-Nkemdiche, who regretted that some girls even at university level, drop out of school for marriages or house wives, reminded them that with the downturn of the economy, they should not heap all the family burden on their husbands but rather team up with them to put food on the table and meet other family needs.
The only female Lawmaker at the state Assembly, urged parents to channel same energy, importance and resources they spend in training their male children on their female children too, maintaining that training a female child is not a waste of money but real investment.
Honourable Ikpeazu-Nkemdiche charged girls to have self-esteem and sense of pride, pursue their education and become a voice in the society, citing some women, who have made it in the society including Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director General, World Trade Organization, Dame Virgy Etiaba first female governor of Anambra State, Professor Stella Okunna, first female Professor of Mass Communication and herself, third time house of Assembly member among many others advising girls to strive to write their names in Gold.
