It is not how long one lived on earth that counts but how well.

 

This was the case of late Chief Sir Ofiadulu Cosmos Uwaneto Makachi whose remains were recently committed to mother earth at his country home, Umuchigbo village Umudioka, Dunukofia local government area.

 

Correspondent Emengini Osadebe who covered the funeral ceremony reports that the late Ofiadulu Cosmos Makechi died at the age of fifty five.

 

Lying in state in his compound, friends and groups from all walks of life Came to pay their last respect to the deceased and sympathized with the family.

 

A holy requiem mass was co-celebrated on his honour by the metropolitan Archbishop of Ecclesiastical province, Onitsha Archdiocese Most Reverend Dr. Valerian Okeke at Blessed lwene Tansi Catholic Church Umudioka.

In hiš condolence message, Archbishop Okeke who described the deceased as a resourceful and compassionate man, sympathized with the family while expressing hope that they will accept the demise of their father and brother with faith in God even as he urged Christians to live life of good deeds.

 

Earlier in his homily during the mass, the Parish Priest of the Church, Reverend Father Emmanuel Obimma who titled his message “All good deeds has it’s reward” noted that the reward for every good deed is the kingdom of God which every true believer who does what pleases God will inherit and admonished Christians to bear witness for Christ and live a good life.

 

Reverend Father Obimma who described the late Chief Ofiadulu Makachi as an honest man who put all his trust and faith in God, said that death is a transition into new life which awaits every mortal and advised the congregation to use their dispositions for the advancement of God’s kingdom.

In their separate interviews, the Grand President Knight of St John’s International Onitsha Grand Command, Brigadier General Everist Ubah and a member of the knight, Sir Alex Okagbue described the late Sir Cosmos as a humble man not minding his social status, who was committed to things of God and ever ready to assist others and prayed God to grant him eternal rest while urging the family to bear the loss with fortitude.

 

The President Onitsha Sports Club, Chief Uche Ezepue and member of the club Chief Godwin Okeke said he was a religious man who lived a decent life, for the club members to emulate and promised that they will keep on praying for him and his family.

 

His friends Chief Sunday Okonkwo and Chief Ambrose Achuonuogualili said they are going to miss his friendship and prayed God to console the family he left behind.

The children of the deceased Miss Chidumebi and Master Chikaima Makachi described their late father as a courageous and peace loving man and promised to make him proud by living out his legacies while praying God to grant him eternal rest

 

The late Chief Sir Ofiadulu Cosmos Makachi was survived by his aged mother, Madam Veronica Makachi, his wife Lady Nkechi Makachi, four children, brothers and sisters among other relations.
