Public transport companies operating within Anambra State are gradually complying with the State Government’s directive on the prevention of Corona-virus pandemic.
Governor Willie Obiano had in response to the growing threat of the corona-virus pandemic, outlined measures to be taken by commuters to keep themselves and Ndi-Anambra safe.
Some of the measures include submitting the manifest of all passengers coming into Anambra State to the appropriate authorities with their names, phone numbers, residential addresses and final destinations.
Other measures include that no Tri-cyclist should carry more than two passengers, while drivers of shuttle buses must not carry more than three passengers at a time.
Governor Obiano also directed that drivers of township and mini buses must not carry more than five passengers at a time.
When the ABS visited some Motor parks in Awka, hand-washing equipment and Sanitizer gels were strategically positioned, even as some of their workers were putting on nasal masks and hand-gloves.
Top Management Officials at the Terminals, including Messrs Chibuzo Ukemezie, Obumneme Eyisi, and Edwin Tagboo, said in addition to measures already taken, their companies had slightly reduced the number of passengers per bus a measure they said is affecting their revenue, but were heeded in the interest of human safety.
However, some other Motorists are still maintaining their carrying capacity in total disregard to government’s directive on prevention of Corona-virus pandemic.
