Ahead of the ten day twelfth Biennial Police games starting on the twenty-ninth of this Month, the National planning committee for the event has visited Anambra State for an on the spot assessment.


Government House Correspondent, Ejike Abana reports that the Committee led by its Chairman, an Assistant Inspector-General of Police Mr Baba Kali-Usman commended Governor Willie Obiano-led administration for the high level of preparedness, saying that it is expected that more than two hundred competitors from the twelve zones of the Nigeria Police, will participate in different indoor and outdoor games including, weightlifting, boxing, swimming, shooting, football, volleyball, basket ball, table tennis, lawn tennis, among others.


While noting the importance of the games, the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu stressed that Governor Obiano knows the importance of sports in human development which is why he accepted to host the game, which is coming to the South East region for the first time, calling on Ndi Anambra to come out in their numbers to participate.


The Chairman of Anambra State Sports Development Commission, Chief Tony Oli thanked the Governor for accepting to host the event, pointing out that the games will take place at different locations including the Dr Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, Otuocha Township stadium, Rojenny Games Village Oba, Tansi International College, Okpuno, Golden Tulip hotels Agulu and NYSC Orientation camp at Umuawulu-Mbaukwu, adding that routes for the about twenty-one kilometers marathon and fifty kilometers cycling have been mapped out.


The Force Public Relations Officer, Mr Frank Mba, who spoke on recruitment into the police games, said that Ndigbo and every local government area is well represented, expressing optimism that by the end of the games, Ndi Anambra will develop interest in multiple sporting.


The State Commissioner of Police, Mr John Abang, among others, attended the event.
