Anambra State Police Command operatives have commenced investigation into the murder of the Secretary of Okija Development Union, Barrister Peter Awah.
It was gathered that the incident happened by eleven o’clock in the evening on Sunday, 19th May at Eke Umudioka, Okija.
According to a statement issued by the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, preliminary information revealed that the assailants operating in motorbikes shot the deceased as he was about to alight his vehicle for safety when he was approached by the murderers.
Meanwhile, some eyewitnesses have provided details that are already aiding the investigation, according to the Police.
The Police statement noted that while commiserating with the family and friends of the deceased, the Nigerian Bar Association, the people of Okija, as well as the state in general, the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr Nnaghe Obono Itam, directed immediate transfer of the case to the Homicide section of the Criminal Investigation Department, Awka for a comprehensive probe into the incident.
