A forty-year-old rape suspect, Mr Anietie Tim, has been arrested by law enforcement agency in Onitsha after several failed attempts.

The arrest was made possible through a radio presenter resident in Onitsha, who volunteered to help after he was informed of the incident.

Speaking to Journalists after his arrest, the suspect, Mr Tim, from Eninan AkwaIbom State, said he never knew that his victim was an underage, and further stated that she was the one that tempted him and he succumbed.

The suspect also explained that before the incident, he was already befriending the fourteen-year-old victim, who, according to him, was always facing starvation at home.

Reacting to the arrest, the radio presenter, Mr Francis Pember, thanked the state government for always fighting for the vulnerable people in the state, and stated that he is convinced that the ministry will not let the suspect go scot-free.

Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs Ify Obinabo, after questioning the suspect, directed that he be handed over to the Police, as he will be appearing before the Children, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Court in Awka to answer for his crime.

It would be recalled that the incident happened in 2022, after which the suspect kept evading arrest, and on different occasions, threatened the mother of his victim, claiming to be untouchable.
