Anambra State Students in institutions of higher learning have been advised to shun being used as political thugs by politicians.

Professor Kate Omenugha, Commissioner for Basic Education told the newly elected Executive Committee of the National Union of Anambra State Students, NUASS, at the Udoji Secretariat Complex, Awka,

She advised the committee to use their tenure in office to educate fellow students on the need to participate positively in the coming election without being used as thugs.

Professor Omenugha spoke on the need for students to live according to the dictates of  Anambra shared values, seeing themselves as solution providers rather than being part of the problems to be solved.

The Commissioner called on the youths to be worthy ambassadors of the state’s cultural heritage and values, with deep rooted knowledge of the state’s historical antecedents.

She said that all students from primary to tertiary education should know the states emblem and what it meant to the state.

Professor Omenugha reaffirmed that the present administration was always ready to see to the welfare of Anambra State students.

Professor Omenugha who is a female Professor of Mass Communication, called on the union to create a database for all Anambra State Students in tertiary institutions and also form a students’ union cooperative society as it would help the state to know their challenges and possible solutions.

In an address earlier, the President of NUASS, Mr Okwuchukwu Okonkwo, intimated that the union was on a familiarisation tour of some ministries as part of looking out for ways to enhance collaboration and joint projects that could improve the welfare of  students worldwide.
