Anambra State Government has flagged off COVID-19 vaccination in the state.

Governor Willie Obiano performed the function at the state Cold Store, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka.

Government House Correspondent, Ejike Abana reports that the vaccine is Oxford AstraZeneca.

Inaugurating the vaccination Governor Obiano announced that Anambra State received the first batch of seventy-eight thousand doses and advised Ndi Anambra to fill the online form to queue up for vaccination.

He declared that apart from the symbolic vaccination, frontline health workers will be prioritized in the lineup.

While pointing out that he had taken his own, the Governor said that the vaccine comes in two tranches, stressing that it can save lives from COVID-19 without any side effects.

Governor Obiano warned that despite being vaccinated, people should still maintain the protocols till every person around them is vaccinate.

The Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Right Honourable Uchenna Okafor, Secretary to the state government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, traditional ruler of Okpuno, Igwe Sunday Okafor and his Mbaukwu counterpart, Igwe Peter Anugwu, and Vice President of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene, among others took the vaccine immediately after the ceremony.

They advised Ndi Anambra to protect themselves against the virus by taking the vaccine.

The Executive Secretary, Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Chioma Ezenyimulu revealed that once people register online, they will queue up to be vaccinated in the healthcare center nearest to them.
