Nigerian Institute of Town Planners Anambra State Chapter has elected a new executive to run the affairs of the Institute for the next two years with Mr Emmanuel Ifemedebe as Chairman

Members of the Institute turned out in their numbers for the election which took place at the Institute’s State secretariat in Awka, under strict observance of COVID -19 preventive protocols.

Paul Ezeoke reports that others elected include Sir Nathan Enemuo Vice Chairman,   Adaeze Iloerika Secretary, Vivian Agufugo Assistant Secretary, Chinyere Ebelendu Financial Secretary, Paschal Okoye Treasurer, Chikwado Okpala Public Relations Secretary, Anselem Alom Assistant Public Relations Secretary, Maduakonam Amaechina  Ex-ofiocio Member One and Ben Nwofor Ex-oficio Member Two.

The election followed expiration of the tenure of Mr Maduakolam Amaechina led executive which was elected in 2018.

In his speech, the immediate past Chairman, Mr Amachina while thanking the members of the chapter for their support and encouragement throughout the duration of their tenure, urged them to devote their interests and commitment to principles and practice of Town Planning profession as well as uphold professional code of conduct.

He called for increased advocacy for the creation of Ministry of Town Planning to further help tackle physical planning challenges to promote healthy environment.

Also speaking, the Second National Vice President of the Institute, Mr Ogbonna  Chime thanked the Chapter for the support given to him during the 2020 National election of the Institute in Abuja and stressed the need for unity of purpose to achieve more in coming years

Mr Chime extolled the peaceful and orderly conduct of the election, noting that Anambra state has continued to set pace for other States.

In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman Mr Ifemedebe assured that they will work towards promoting creativity in the practice of the profession and closer working relationship with government.

He commended large turnout of members for the election, restating that the new executive members will uphold team spirit to achieve set goals.

The event featured presentation of certificates to members of the new executive.
