The need to stay vigilant during the dry season has been emphasized by the state Chief Fire Officer, Chief Martin Agbili, following the rampant fire incidents across the state.

Kenechukwu Chukwudi reports that the dry and rainy seasons are the two prominent climates in tropical areas like Nigeria.

The dry season comes with its own peculiarities with a brief period of harmattan occasioned by cold and dusty weather from the Sahara Desert.

The season is also known for hot weather, causing severe dryness, which most times trigger illnesses and easily carry and spread fire.

Speaking on this, Chief Agbili explained that most of the fire incidents during this period are caused by human activities and not mostly due to the climate condition and emphasized that people must take serious precautions in preventing fire incidents.

On ways to effectively curtail fire outbreak during this season, Mr. Agbili advised people to cut bushes around their houses at least twenty feet away, ensure that gas cylinders are always kept outside, switch off electrical appliances when not in use to avoid power surge.

He also reiterated the preparedness of the state fire service to contain fire incident in any part of the state urging Ndi Anambra to have firefighting equipment and raise alarm during emergencies.

In his remarks, a resident, Mr. Mike Nebo noted that he is coping well with the weather and advised people to be careful while burning waste materials , including the use of candle light in the house to avoid fire outbreak.

Also speaking Miss Blessing Nwafor and Mr. Amobi Emenike harped on the need for people to take care of their health during this period and avoid anything that will trigger fire outbreak.
