The International Community observed yesterday as Peace Day.
It is a day established by the United Nations General Assembly aimed
at strengthening the ideals of peace.


Njideka Okoye who gave an insight on the significance of the day
reports that the theme for this year’s celebration is “Shaping Peace
Together geared towards spreading compassion, kindness, peace and hope
to people in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.”


Speaking on the day, an Anglican Priest Venerable Angus Umeh said that
if there is any time the world needs peace, it is now as almost all
the countries of the world are experiencing one crisis or the other,
prejudice, rancor and acrimony, explosions, hatred, bombings, killings
and power tussle.


On his part, the member representing Ogbaru Constituency One at the
Anambra State House of Assembly and Chairman House Committee on Youth.


Empowerment, Creative Economy and Sports, Honourable Noble Igwe, said
the only solution to corporate existence is living in peace with one
another.


He said that proper orientation of the youths and engaging them
meaningfully by government at different levels will go a long way in
eliminating crisis and commended Governor Willie Obiano for his
purposeful leadership.


For an Ambassador of peace and the traditional ruler of Umueri, Igwe
Benneth Emeka, this year’s International Day of Peace calls on warring
nations to lay down their weapons and focus on the battle against
global pandemic, the COVID-19 that has thrown the world into turmoil.
